Exhibition Theme: Climate Resilient Bio-Economy for Sustainable and Inclusive Development

Prof. A K Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser, Govt of India, Dr. V K Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, and Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University

Background

Sustainability is development that satisfies the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generations, guaranteeing the balance between economic growth, care for the environment and social well-being. It was recognized that while the United Nation’s 2030-agenda provide a broad framework for achieving global sustainable development, sustainable and inclusive development needed to be addressed at local levels, with unique local challenges and aspirations. This is particularly true for the North-East. Therefore, an annual event named North East Sustainable and Inclusive Development (NESID) was launched in 2017. The NESID-23 aims to continue this series, and to highlight India’s North-East as a critical hotspot for the convergence of sustainable development with women empowerment and skill building, leading to the overall holistic growth and progress of the region, with emphasis on food, energy and inclusive health.

Structure

In addition to the Keynote Address and the Chief Guest’s Address, NESID-23 will have Lead talks and Invited talks by renowned experts from different organization in India. These talks will be organized in thematic Technical Sessions (please see the tentative programme below). In addition, a number of Poster Sessions will be organized.

Key Issues

  • Challenges in sustainable and inclusive development (SID) in North-East India.
  • Sustainable development in food, energy and inclusive health.
  • Sustainable, Smart Cities.
  • S&T inputs, solutions and technology adaptation.
  • Climate and disaster resilience.

Events

  • Technical presentations.
  • Panel discussions with eminent personalities.

The Organizers:

Situated in the “Knowledge City”. Jorhat, The Assam Kaziranga University is a private university having six different academic schools covering a range of disciplines e.g. Engineering & Technology, Social Sciences, Basic Sciences, Computing Sciences, Health Sciences and Business. Since its establishment, the university has been involved in different academic, research and skill development programmes designed to achieve sustainable development and empowerment of people all around North-Eastern Region (NER) by tapping best available opportunities in the rapidly evolving global world.

The Institute of Frontier Science and Application (IFSA) is an organization under Science for Inclusive and Integraded Development Trust (SIID), a public interest charitable Trust. IFSA is devoted to multidisciplinary research that relies on an Information Technology enabled global virtual platform comprising scientists, scholars and thought leaders.

The Location:

Jorhat, with its pleasant climate and green vistas, is a place to live in, to explore and to fall in love with! It is a historic city, with many monuments of historical/cultural/religious interests in and around it; several famous wildlife parks, like the Kaziranga National Park and the Dihing-Patkai sanctuaries are within easy driving distances. It is well connected by road, rail and air; the Roroia airport is less than 20 minutes drive from the university. Already celebrated for its natural assets, cultural diversity and rich heritage, Jorhat is now evolving as a thriving metropolis. In the recent times, Jorhat has glorified the already laudable richness of the North-East by developing itself into a hub of education. The proposed Cultural Programme will provide an opportunity for the participants to visit some of these sites.
