The Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Shri Virendra Mittal and his team of officials visited Kaziranga University on the 17th of February

The Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Shri Virendra Mittal and his team of officials visited Kaziranga University on the 17th of February and enlightened us with his talk on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and his unique initiative called 'Daan Toilet'.

Virendra Mittal, a 2007 batch IAS officer, hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He has been posted in Jorhat since 2016. His successful endeavour is called 'Daan Toilet' wherein toilets can be donated to those households that still follow open defecation. This is to make the country open defecation free by October 2nd 2019, as a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. The Daan Toilet initiative has managed to donate more than 250 toilets, by raising close to 50 lakh.

Dr. V.P Singh, Advisor Organization Development, Patanjali, visited KU on 12th and 13th of February 2018.

Kaziranga University's Faculty, Students and Staff were honoured to welcome and hear Dr. V.P Singh, Advisor Organization Development, Patanjali, as he interacted with us on the 12th and 13th of February 2018 in the KU Campus.

Dr. Singh has facilitated multiple interventions around culture, process and structure of Patanjali. From 2002-2015, Dr. Singh led the Human Resources team at RJ Corp, the world’s second largest Pepsi Bottler and owners of 600+ Pizza Hut, KFC, Costa Coffee in three countries. Dr. Singh was also associated with Escorts Group (1993-2000), where he did pioneering work in domains of Assessment Center, Value Based Performance Culture, Performance Counseling, Proactive IR, Leadership Practices, and Career Modeling.

He has been a researcher, teacher and trainer in VM National Institute of Cooperative Management and University of Pune (1974-77), Institute of Company Secretaries of India (1978-1979) and All India Management Association (1979-1982).

He has published 20 research and experiential papers and articles in leading management journals, and is Executive and Life Coach associated with the International Coach Federation, USA & Member, Mentor Pool, Everwise, USA. Currently, Dr Singh has been teaching, coaching and mentoring students at the Indian Institute of Management, Raipur. He is also a Distinguished Professor & Advisor with Dr K.N Modi University.

Tata Consultany Services (TCS) Pool Campus Drive conducted at Kaziranga University on 9th February 2018

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. visited Kaziranga University for a Pool-Campus Recruitment Drive on 9th February 2018 for the recruitment of graduates of BA/BCom/BSc/BSW/BBA and several other programmes.

304 students participated in the drive, from many renowned Colleges and Institutes across the region, such as JIST, CKB College, Bahona College, Central, NN Saikia, Moriani, Chinamora, Jhanji HNS, Amguri, Gargaon, Nazira, Sibsagar Commerce College, JDSG, CNB, Komargaon, to name a few.

A total of 40 candidates were recruited from the drive.

Team from National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) visited Kaziranga University on 08 January 2018 to explore the possibilities of University-Industry partnership.



A high powered team led by Mr. Rajiv Mathur, Senior Head, Skill Advisory Service, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) visited Kaziranga University on 08.01.2018 to explore the possibilities of University-Industry partnership for the purpose of enhancing the employability quotient of the engineering students of Kaziranga University, skilling the unemployed youth of North-east in general and Assam in particular and also developing the community around Kaziranga University by skilling and engaging them into gainful employment.

The team consisted of Ms. Rekha Menon, Head – Education, NSDC; Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University; Mr. Amit Bhatnagar, Director – Skill Development & Training, Manav Rachna University; Mr. Ashish Nadkarni, Head Training Solutions, SKF (A Swedish Multinational Corporation), Mr. Prashant Pednekar, Manager - Sustainability Compliance and YES CSR, SKF; and Mr. Anurag Sharma from P3 Consulting Group, a German Multinational Corporation engaged in providing services to top aviation, automobile and shipping companies of the world.

The team saw the physical and technical infrastructure of the university, which included the state-of-the-art Robotics Lab set up in association with TAL Brabo, Mechatronics lab set up by Bosch and the advanced computing lab set up for the purpose of training the students in the emerging areas of technology. The visiting team was highly impressed and appreciative of the facilities that have been created by the university for the benefit of students and the way the university has grown in a short span of 5 years. The team also visited the Skill Development Centre of Kaziranga University, which has been set up in association with IL&FS Skills.

NSDC team and the teams from SKF and P3 consulting have evinced keen interest in forging the partnership with Kaziranga University, and had a detailed discussion with Mr. Basant Khetan, Pro-Chancellor of Kaziranga University; Dr. P. K. Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Kaziranga University and Prof. Tarun Kumar, Head of Skill Development initiatives of Kaziranga University about the areas of possible collaboration and modalities thereof.

Kaziranga University conducts a 2-day Technological Extravaganza for Higher Secondary Students

Committed towards the advancement of technical education in the North-East, Kaziranga University organized a first of its kind technological event ‘TechBlitz’ for Class 12 students on the 10th and 11th of November 2017. A fun-filled technological extravaganza, TechBlitz was attended by 700 students from schools all across Assam and the North-East on the 10th of November, while a similar number is expected to attend on the 11th as well.

With the intention of offering to students path-breaking leaning experiences at par with 21st century global standards, this programme has been organized by Kaziranga University with the objective of enabling students to understand the various technological tools and equipment that are being used in the industry today. Open for Science students in the final year of high school, this event provided them with the opportunity to practically participate in the scientific experiments, and gain an understanding of the fields of technology and engineering, under the guidance of experts at the University.

This two-day event consists of workshops and seminars, and demonstrations in Robotics and Ethical Hacking among several other domains. The students got the opportunity to not only physically and practically operate a live robot, but also understand the various nuances of robot-making and building a live robot. Apart from this, live hacking demonstrations were shown to the students during the lecture series, introducing them to the concept of ethical hacking and cyber security. The students were also exposed to the use of pocket computers through Raspberry Pi.

This workshop also provided the students a chance to familiarise themselves with various other equipment and machines in the workshops and laboratories of the Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering departments.

TechBlitz has been organized with the aim of helping young students understand the need of the industry today, and empowering them to choose their field of passion as they stand on the brink of choosing their future careers. This event is a clear reflection of Kaziranga University’s commitment to developing quality individuals from the North-East, who will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required for the growth of the nation. Shaping young minds has always been a priority for the University, and with events like TechBlitz, the University will continue working towards that goal.

National Seminar on “Social Exclusion and Challenges of Inclusion in India” organised by School of Social Sciences, The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat, Assam

A two-day national seminar on “Social Exclusion and Challenges of Inclusion in India”organised by the School of Social Sciences, The Assam Kaziranga University was held during 25-26 of August, 2017. The seminar was participated by 34 participants from different colleges of Assam and also from JawaharLal Nehru University (JNU), Dibrugarh University and Assam Womens’ University Jorhat.

In the Inaugural Session of the seminar, Dr. P.K. Mishra, honourable vice-chancellor of the Assam Kaziranga University delivered the welcome address. Dr. Mishra in his address briefly highlighted the objectives of establishment of the Assam Kaziranga University. He further dealt with the concept of social exclusion that has been operating in different countries based on different social phenomenon. Prof. Vinay Kumar Srivastava, Director, Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata, delivered the Inaugural Address. Prof. Srivasata, who is a versatile orator, cited in his address examples of social exclusion as well as social inclusion in the Indian society and also of different societies of the world. He emphasized upon the fact that the social exclusion and inclusion are processes which are not to be looked in isolation of each other, rather they both exist simultaneously in human societies.The Inaugural Session was also addressed by Prof. B.N. Borthakur, Dean, School of Social Sciences who in his speech focused on the objectives of organizing academic events such as seminars in universities. Prof. Borthakur opined that the academic image of the university is reflected through academic activities like holding of seminars, participation of teaches in such seminars, publication of research journals and publication of research papers, books etc. by the teachers.

Dr. Biswajit Ghosh, Professor of Sociology, University of Burdwan, West Bengal, delivered the keynote address of the seminar. In his address, Prof. Ghosh dwelt upon at length the concept of social exclusion and he particularly discussed the phenomenon of social exclusion in Indian context from four angles namely dalits, tribals, religious minorities and women.

In all, four technical sessions were held which were chaired by Prof. B.N. Borthakur, Prof. Biswajit Ghosh, Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia and Dr. RuprekhaBordoloi, Principal Kakojan College, jorhat. In the Valedictory Session, valedictory address was delivered by Dr.Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Professor of Sociology, Dibrugarh University, who in his address besides dealing with the concepts of social inclusion and exclusion, also appreciated the School of Social Sciences of Kaziranga University for organizing such kind of academic event. Prof. B.N. Borthakur delivered the vote of thanks in which he appreciated the management of the Kaziranga University for their support in organizing the seminar and commented that this is symbolic of their pursuit for developing the Kaziranga University as one of the best academic institutions in the North-East and in India. He also thanked the participants and resource persons for their engagement in the seminar.

Induction for the new students of Kaziranga University was held in the University campus on the 17th and 18th of August, 2017. Kaziranga University was proud to welcome renowned guests as speakers on both the days

The Chief Guests for the occasion were Dr. Mukul Chandra Bora, Director, Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology, and renowned entrepreneur Jahnabi Phookan.

Dr. Mukul Chandra Bora completed his B.E Civil Engineering from Dibrugarh University, M.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and PhD from IIT, Guwahati and has had first hand experience of both industry and academic life.

Ms. Phookan is the Director of Jungle Travels India and Assam Bengal Navigation Company, both National Tourism Award winning travel companies.

An alumna of the US Government Exchange Program, she was one of the ten representatives from India in the South East Asian Entrepreneurship Symposium in Dhaka in Feb 2013 . In 2007, Ms Phookan was one of the founder members of FLO (FICCI Ladies Organization) Northeast and Chairperson in 2008. Ms. Phookan was also awarded among the 30 Outstanding Women Achievers in the FLO network to commemorate the 30 years of FLO’s existence. Founder Chairperson of the IWN (India Women Network) of CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), she is presently the co-chair of CII Assam Council. Along with a partner, she introduced Fabindia into the Northeast in 2008 with two Fabindia stores in Guwahati and Dibrugarh. Jahnabi is also the Director of the family-owned Baruanagar Tea Estates Pvt Ltd., Baruakhat Tea Company and Konyak Tea. Ms Phookan is a graduate of Calcutta University, post-graduate from Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) and alumna of Indiana University, USA.

Installation of New National Cadet Corps (NCC) Unit at Kaziranga University

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) officially installed the new 51 Assam AIR (T) SQN NCC unit at Kaziranga University on the 9th of August, 2017.

The Unit comprises of 25 cadets from among the University students, who were selected after a meticulous selection process. The cadets, who have shown enthusiastic interest, will work towards the completion of the ‘C’ Certificate, the highest offered by the NCC at this level. This 3 year course includes weekly training sessions, along with various camps every semester.

The orientation programme for the University’s first NCC cadets was held in the campus in the presence of Group Commander, NCC (Air Force) M.K Sharma and his team on the 9th of August. The Unit was welcomed by Maj. Gen. SukeshRakshit, Dean, Outreach and Projects, Kaziranga University, and Mr.Jaspal Singh, who are the Coordinators of this programme. Itwas attended by the Director of Kaziranga University, Ms. Rainy Khetan, Registrar of the University, the Deans of the various schools, Faculty members and the Cadets.

This is the first time that the NCC has installed a unit in a private university in this region, aiming to providefor the development of character, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventureand ideals of selfless service among the youth of the country.
