Kaziranga University Conducts Fifth Convocation Celebrations on January 13th 2019

 

The Assam Kaziranga University, one of North-East India’s premier universities, conducted its 5th Annual Convocation Ceremony on January 13, 2019 at the University campus in Koraikhowa, Jorhat. Attended by several notable guests and luminaries, this year’s Annual Convocation was graced by the presence of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of State, Government of Assam, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion.

This year, the Fifth Convocation also had as the Guests of Honour, Shri Ashok Mittal, Chancellor, Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, and Six Time World Amateur Boxing Champion Padma Bhushan M.C Mary Kom, who was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Kaziranga University in 2018. The Convocation ceremony was presided over by the Hon’ble Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Dr. Murli Dhar Khetan.

During the ceremony, 405 young men and women from across the different schools of the University were awarded their degrees as they officially graduated from the University on this day. The dignitaries and distinguished guests present were Shri Basant Khetan, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Dr. P.K Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Kaziranga University, members of the University Governing Board, Shri Shyam Kanu Mahanta and Dr. P. Goswami, among other esteemed individuals.

On this momentous occasion, The University also conferred Honorary Doctorate Degrees upon two exemplary individuals, noted for tremendous contribution in their respective fields - Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, Assam’s very own ‘Forest Man’ and former World and Olympic Champion Padma Bhushan Abhinav Bindra.

The function began with the arrival of the staid Academic Procession at the venue, marking the opening of the ceremony. In his Welcome address, the Vice Chancellor Dr. P.K Mishra welcomed the esteemed dignitaries, guests, parents and students, while highlighting the accomplishments of Kaziranga University in the year gone by, with a special emphasis on KU’s numerous collaborations and corporate partnerships, at par with global educational standards. The Chancellor’s address inaugurating the ceremony touched upon the pride and satisfaction the University takes in sending out into the world accomplished and skilled young professionals, as he expressed his gratitude to the parents and other stakeholders in placing their faith and trust on the University.

The Guests of Honour then addressed the gathering with their words of wisdom. Padma Bhushan M.C Mary Kom addressed the young students by using her own life as an inspiring example, focusing on the determination it takes to achieve the impossible, and how important it is to have in one the hunger to do better and achieve more. Shri Ashok Mittal’s address highlighted his gratefulness at being a part of such a momentous occasion, while he expressed his hope for Kaziranga University’s assured success as one of the best institutes of learning in India and the North East.

Hon’ble Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal delivered the Convocation Address with his words of inspiration, focusing on the power and ability of youth, especially in India, home to the largest population of young people in the world. Shri Sonowal’s words were motivating and passionate, as he roused among those gathered the zeal for hard work and the importance of empowering oneself.  

More than 250 graduating students were presented with their Degrees, and 18 student-toppers were awarded with Gold Medals for ranking first in each of their programmes by the Honorable Chief Minister.

A benchmark of excellence has indeed been created by Kaziranga University on this day. The success of the occasion throws light upon the achievements of the University in providing an industry-based educational interface for students. With a goal of improving society through education and skill development, KU aims to produce young men and women of character and strong values, who will go out into the world and make a difference.

SKF India’s 5th YES Skill Development Centre launched at Kaziranga University

 

In line with Kaziranga University’s commitment to imparting professional education and training courses in various fields of education for the well-being of society, a YES Skill Development Centre was launched at the KU campus, established in collaboration with SKF India.

This Centre was inaugurated by Mr. Manish Bhatnagar, MD SKF India and Dr. M.D Khetan, Chancellor, Kaziranga University, on 18th December 2018, in the presence of several esteemed dignitaries including Mr. Shrikant Savangikar, Director, SKF, Mr. Ram Kolavenu, COO, Sambhav Foundation, Mr. S.B Singh, National Sales Head (East) TVS Motors, Ms. Nilanjana Mukherjee, Key Accounts Manager Sambhav Foundation, Shri Basant Khetan, Pro-Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Dr. P.K Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Ms. Rainy Khetan, Director, Kaziranga University and Prof. Tarun Kumar, Registrar, Kaziranga University.

The Skill Development Centre will conduct various programmes providing necessary auto-technical skills and training to high-school drop-outs and other underprivileged youth groups from around the region, and enable them to venture out into skilled professions and technical jobs. Established at Kaziranga University, under SKF India Ltd.’s flagship Program YES (Youth Empowerment at SKF), this Skill Development Centre not only aims to provide job-oriented training to the youth, but also boost entrepreneurship in the region by providing seed money of Rs. 2 Lakhs to budding entrepreneurs, and helping them contribute towards the infrastructure development of the North East.

Kaziranga University, along with SKF India, will play a lead role in opening the floodgates, and giving a push to the much-needed entrepreneurship and employability in the region, marking the start of a new beginning for the underprivileged youth in North East India. As a part of the collaboration, Kaziranga University has also provided necessary infrastructure for the Skill Development Centre, such as training rooms and laboratories, along with the setting up of arrangements for a Business Incubation centre, set up along SKF guidelines.

Dr. M.D Khetan, at the launch, commented on the opportune time that this collaboration has been set up, opening up avenues not just for students from around the region, but also for those of underprivileged backgrounds. This collaboration is also a matter of pride for Kaziranga University, as it is another step towards achieving the furtherance of the vision of the organization - the empowerment of the youth of North East India by providing them the skills required to excel in their lives.

MoU signed between Apollo Medskills and Kaziranga University

Keeping up with its commitment to promote industry-aligned, new-age education in the North-East, Kaziranga University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Apollo Medskills Ltd. (AMSL) to develop and promote health education and training programmes for the students of the region. 
 
This MoU was undertaken and signed in the Kaziranga University campus on 13th December 2018, by Dr. Srinivas Rao, CEO, Apollo Medskills Ltd. and Dr. P.K Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, in the auspicious presence of distinguished dignitaries Ms. Rainy Khetan, Director, Kaziranga University, and Prof. Tarun Kumar, Registrar, Kaziranga University among several others. 
 
The objectives and scope of the MoU was highlighted and discussed at the signing, which included the facilitating of two-year Management Programmes, Undergraduate programmes, Certificate programmes, nursing-related and other career progression programmes in the field of health, wellbeing and heath management education between the two esteemed organizations. Along with the development and delivery of joint academic programmes, the collaboration also explores the expansion of infrastructure for skill development, in which both parties aim to work towards the setting up of centralized hub of domain laboratories, as well as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for achieving educational and training objectives.
 
Dr. Mishra, in his congratulatory speech, mentioned that this collaboration comes at a very important time where the need of the hour is the expansion of professional health care sector not only in the North East, but also throughout the country. With the shortage of skilled health professionals and technical centres in the region, academic and training collaborations such as these can play a vital role. Associating with renowned organizations AMSL is in line with Kaziranga University’s commitment to bringing exposure, knowledge and job-oriented skill training into the North-East, and helping boost the region’s institutional and technological growth and development. 
 
Kaziranga University takes great pride in introducing new-age, industry aligned courses and skill-training programmes in the region, especially in burgeoning fields such as health sciences and allied sectors. With the increased focus on the economic and social growth of the North-Eastern states, KU aims to fulfil the common vision of the nation, in bridging the employability gap of the young people and to make inclusive the state’s and country’s economic growth.

In order to put up the innovation culture and involve the students in experiential learning the selected B. Tech. projects will be awarded.

Criteria: IPR, Market potential, Originality and innovativeness, societal impact and Usefulness to KU.

Award: Along with certificate of appreciation and medal at the time of convocation by VC

  • Five prizes of Rs. 5,000/- each

Process: The abstract of project along with 5 minutes video must be submitted to the DEAN office by the students.

 

If no project is found suitable, the award for that year may be treated as null.

MoU signed between Bangladesh University of Science & Technology (BUET) and Kaziranga University

 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Kaziranga University and Bangladesh University of Science and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh on the 22nd of November 2018 in the Kaziranga University campus. BUET is the oldest and biggest Technical Public University in Bangladesh, comparable to the best in the world. It has been a proud privilege for Kaziranga University to have this association with BUET.

The MoU entails the following benefits for both the Universities:

School of Engineering and Technology has organized IBM day on 14.12.18 in collaboration with IBM. CSE, ECE and EE courses of Kaziranga University

 

School of Engineering and Technology has organized IBM day on 14.12.18 in collaboration with IBM. CSE, ECE and EE courses of Kaziranga University are developed as per industry requirement in two domain Cloud computing Virtualization and Business Analytic in collaboration with IBM.

The day is being celebrated every year where the students of CSE, ECE and EE showcase their talent through poster presentations, paper presentations and project demonstrations to the industry experts from IBM and Wipro.

Mr. Hari R, Mr. Viqar Uddin Surki from IBM and Ms. Varsha Malappa Mordi from Wipro, Commander Srinivas Rao from Apollo Medskills, Honorable Vice chancellor of Kaziranga University, Deans of all schools have graced the occasion.

The program started with welcome speech of The Dean, SET followed by the inaugural speech by The VC and keynote speech by Mr. Hari R, IBM. Paper presentation of 3rd semester students and poster presentation of 1st semester students started simultaneously in the auditorium and reception arena respectively. In second half, fifth semester students demonstrated their projects.

The program ended with award distribution to the winner followed by the vote of thanks by the Dean, SOB and group photograph.

CSE, ECE and EE students showed their extraordinary talent through different projects, ideas and concept notes aligned to Cloud computing, Virtualization, Business Analytics and IoT, which are part of their course. All the projects are mentored by the faculty members of CSE department. 9 posters were displayed, 10 paper has been presented and 11 projects demonstrated in front IBM experts and faculty members of SET. Expert from industries are highly appreciative about the students’ performance and they have considered few projects for further modification, incubation, refinement to make it and market it.

Kaziranga University conducts TechBlitz 2018, a 3-day Technological Extravaganza for Higher Secondary Students

 

Organized with the aim of helping young students from across the region understand the needs of the industry today, Kaziranga University conducted the second edition of TechBlitz, the 3-day on-campus Technological Extravaganza for Higher Secondary Students, on the 29th, 30th and 31st of October 2018.

Mainly for the students of Class 12 (Science), the objective of the TechBlitz 2018 was to orient students on the latest developments in the Engineering and Technological world through multiple hands-on experiences, thereby inculcating a spirit of inquisitiveness amongst the students. The workshop witnessed 841 students, accompanied by 68 faculty members, from 23 institutes, hailing from various states of the North East, and provided a valuable opportunity for students to meet and interact with similarly aged but culturally diverse students from the same class and stream. It aimed at empowering them to choose their field of passion as they stand on the brink of choosing their future careers.

The 2018 edition of TechBlitz focused on robotics, internet of things, cloud computing, hydraulic propulsion and artificial intelligence amongst others. Students of Kaziranga University exhibited and presented various projects undertaken by them that included Line Following Robots, a Smart Dustbin, street light monitoring system based on LDR sensors and a Magical Mirror amongst others. Patent applications have been filed by the students for a number of these projects. It is noteworthy that all projects presented over the course of the workshop had multiple commercial applications, as well as were socially beneficial. These projects were also created with minimal resources and sought to seek a way to reduce the costs involved in building similar robots.

All projects were mentored and led by the faculty members of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), which includes illustrious names like Dr. P. G. Ramesh, former Deputy Director of the Indian Naval Command Headquarters, the Dean of SET, Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Dr. Sajal Saha, Prof. Priyakshi Bharali among other distinguished names.

The participating students were provided the opportunity to physically and practically operate live robots, and the other projects, enabling them to understand the various nuances involved in such technologies. In the opening ceremony, the Vice – Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Dr. P.K Mishra, emphasised on the need to keep ourselves updated with the recent trends in technology and on the need to acquire practical education in this regard. Other speakers included the Dean of Admissions at Kaziranga University, who provided an insight into what the future will be like and the nature of education that students require to stay abreast with the times.

The workshop also had the honour of hosting Mr. Hari R., the GMU Lead, STG Tech University Business Development & Ecosystem at IBM India Private Limited. Mr. Hari spoke about the collaboration between IBM and Kaziranga University in delivering the Bachelors of Technology programmes. He focused on the relevancy of maintaining a contemporary syllabus that is industry relevant.

This event is a clear reflection of Kaziranga University’s commitment to developing quality individuals from the North-East, who will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required for the growth of the nation. All participants highly appreciated the efforts taken to make TechBlitz 2018 an extremely engaging and interesting workshop, and this completely student-driven event undertaken by the students of Kaziranga University successfully created an interface between industry and classroom learning. Shaping young minds has always been a priority for the University, and with events like TechBlitz, the University will continue working towards that goal.

National Seminar on Tribes in Transition in India Organized by Kaziranga University

 

A National Seminar on the theme ‘Tribes in Transition in India: Highlighting India’s North East’, was organized by the School of Social Sciences of the Assam Kaziranga University on 12th-13th October 2018. The event was held in association with, and sponsored by the Anthropological Survey of India, Government of India.

The inaugural session of the Seminar was held on 12th October 2018, in which the Inaugural Address was delivered by Professor of Eminence, Tezpur University, Prof. Virginius Xaxa. Other distinguished guests and dignitaries present were Prof. Sekh Rahim Mondal, Prof. of Anthropology and Sociology, North Bengal University, Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Prof. and Head of Sociology, Dibrugarh University, Prof. B.N Borthakur, Dean School of Social Sciences, Kaziranga University, and Maj. General Sukesh Rakshit, Dean of Outreach and Projects, Kaziranga Universities. The Inaugural programme came to an end with a colourful cultural programme put forward by the students of Kaziranga University.

The two-day programme had three Technical Sessions, in which more than 15 papers were presented by students, research scholars, academicians and faculty from all over the country. The Keynote Address on the second day was delivered by Prof. Sekh Rahim Mondal, Prof. of Anthropology and Sociology, North Bengal University. The seminar saw a lot of enlightening discussion and presentations on tribes in India, focusing on their identities, transformations, transitions and policies, among many other aspects.

Attended by more than 100 students, delegates and guests, the Seminar was the second of such a pan-Indian event to be organized by the School of Social Sciences, Kaziranga University. The Valedictory session of the seminar saw the presentation of the Rapporteurs for each technical session, in which the papers presented by participants were summarized and highlighted. This was followed by the Valedictory Address by Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia of Dibrugarh University.

Kaziranga University’s commitment to promoting engaging academic research is vastly reflected in the organization of this National-level seminar by the School of Social Sciences. The theme of the seminar, focusing on the North East, also emphasizes on the University’s dedicated work towards the upliftment and development of North East as a region, promoting research, discussion and discourses.
