Kaziranga University is aware of and committed to the social responsibility of institutions and organizations of its kind. In keeping with its conviction, KU has already launched a "Save RhinoTM" campaign, integrally associated with all its communications.
The University has also engaged in a "Green Campus" programme, putting in place viable systems for generating solar power as well as bio-power, waste treatment, recycling and tree plantation drives.
The University, under the banner of the KU School of Social Sciences and the University Community Club, has been encouraging students to engage in the social and developmental activities in their neighbourhood, making it imperative for students to engage and give back to society. The socially responsible and environmentally sustainable culture of "reduce, reuse and recycle" is inculcated in the university community through regular practice, not by mere precept.
Kaziranga University, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities, organized a walkathon, The Great Save Rhino Walkathon 2013 on the 17th of February, in association with the Department of Forest, Government of Assam. More than 4000 walkers participated in the walkathon, from the JDSA field to the KU Campus, and contributed to the cause of creating awareness against rhino poaching, sensitizing the society about rhino conservation and generating a sense of responsibility among the masses. The participants included civilians, Army personnel, CRPF, Assam Rifles and Assam Police, who covered a distance of 20 km to complete the walk.
Kaziranga University has a vision of becoming a coveted seat of learning in 21st century India, and is working towards a mission of changing lives through knowledge and its use for humanity. To attain this objective, KU has taken an innovative initiative by conceptualizing ‘The North-East Knowledge Hub’. The aim of the North-East Knowledge Hub is to create a network of professionals in higher education for exchange of ideas, expertise, skills and information, pertaining to the career development of the students. This network of professionals will engage together to create educational and employment opportunities for the students of North-East India and beyond.
On 4th February, 2013, an initiation meet of ‘The Knowledge Hub’ was organised in the campus where principals, senior teachers and academicians associated with higher education in the North-east attended to form a network of professionals, desirous to work for education, skill and employability development of the youth of the North-East. This network of educators and professionals will voluntarily help to create a knowledge and skill base for the member institutions of the NE Knowledge Hub.
AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY
October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases. With the aim of spreading this message, Kaziranga University put forth a humble effort to showcase the lesser known aspects of hand washing on the occasion Global Handwashing Day. The event was marked by the students of the MBA programme, initiating awareness drives at various schools in and around Jorhat.
COMMUNITY SERVICE BY THE KU SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES:
The School of Social Sciences, Kaziranga University, is engaged in community activities in different parts of the state. In order to bring awareness among people about social issues prevalent in our society, the School of Social Sciences has conducted numerous rallies, public meetings and street plays in places like Majuli and Kakojan in Jorhat District, Sadiya in Tinsukia District, Gogamukh in Dhemaji District and several areas of Golaghat and Chirang Districts
The School of Social Sciences conducted these activities in collaboration with organizations like NEADS (North East Affected Area Development Society), RVC (Rural Volunteer Centre), SeSTA (Seven Sisters Development Assistance) and PRERONA and more. The School of Social Sciences also organizes rural camps, in order to help students understand and learn the needs and aspirations of the society they live in and form realistic perspectives on various issues and situations.
